Port Forwarding

Torrents use a user-specified port when uploading and downloading files. We have already told Transmission that we want to use port 59152. The last step is to forward the torrent port on your router to your new static IP Address.

- Find out the make/model of your router and go to portforward.com’s router page.
- On the router page, select your router.
- On the next page select “BitTorrent.”
- Ignore everything until you see “BitTorrent’s Port for incoming connections”
- Enter 59152.
- Skip down till you see “Please enter the static ip you want to forward to:”
- Enter your static IP Address
- Follow the remaining instructions to set up port forwarding on your router.

After you’re done, you’ll know it’s correct when you see the green light in Transmission’s Advanced preferences.

    I have the same problem as JohnT – followed all instructions but there’s no option on my router page (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/2701HG-B/BitTorrent.htm) to enter my new static IP. Any way around this or should I just switch to uTorrent?

    no, that won’t help, every torrent program needs the port forwarded if you want maximum speeds. i recommend a new router, any decent one has port forwarding, so an upgrade may also help your overall network speeds.

    I did exactly what you said however the port doesn’t open. When I try using a webpage to test the port, the webpage shows that my ip adress is completely different from what it really is.

    I’m having the same problem. Unfortunately I don’t know what router I have. I live in a basement and my landlord has the router. Any suggestions?

    @Mr D

    @ Mr D : try 2Wire 2700HG, not Gateway.

    I have a Belkin N F5D233-4 and when I get to the enter private IP address, it will only let me enter 2 digits. I can’t enter the complete 12 digit private IP, Running a Mac on OX 10.5.8
